The PUG Constitution
Murray has provided us with a set of his skeleton (i.e. with no data yet entered) database directories. Each .zip file contains the files to recreate one of Murray's directories. The filenames also include Murray's version number for each database - the three digits represent (1) the last digit of the year (2)&(3) the month ... with some flexibiility about two changes happening in the same month!
For these newer databases you should extract the contents of the ZIP file directly into c:\pedigree (or whatever), the elton55.ped sub-directory is embedded in the ZIPed filenames and will be created if it does not already exist. (You should then use PediTree to make a new working database from the elton55 master.)

This database (Royal03.exe, 90kbyte) is needed for the exercises in Colin Liebenrood's PediTree Tutorial Manual.
New Oct 2003
This is a self-extracting archive of the files needed by users, called Royal03.exe. Once downloaded, it should be placed in the PediTree folder (normally C:\Pedigree) and run using Windows Explorer or otherwise. Further details (& a screen-shot) are to be found in chapter 3 section O of the Getting Started Guide version 2.
Carys Faichney produced a sample database, populated with enough data to allow as many as possible of PediTree's facilities and capabilities to be demonstrated or experimented with. You can read more in the December 2006 newsletter and download the database from this page of notes from Carys .

V2 of PedClone is a GUI rewrite of Colin Liebenrood's utility for copying design elements from one database to another.

Colin Liebenrood's Windows version of PedSpecs entirely replaces the old DOS (v2.xx) program.

Colin Liebenrood's "Pedigree Printing" (updated November 2001) can be downloaded as a 334kb ZIP file for Windows 95 onwards, not for for Windows 3.

We thank Paul Joiner for his efforts in indexing the PUG Newsletter.
We have available single volume indexes for all eleven volumes completed to date. The files are all supplied as Rich Text (.rtf) which should import happily into most word processors while still preserving Paul's layout. The files will import into the Windows WordPad utility but in this case only as a single column whereas, for instance, Word preserves Paul's two column layout.

A cumulative index for volumes 1-10 is available.
Rather than allow this cumulative index to grow indefinitely, a new index has been started for volumes 11 onwards.

This started as a comment about the standard (yellow) PediTree icon being rather too light for use on a very light coloured desktop.
I downloaded CoffeeCup Software's Free Icon Studio (but this is no longer available) and created these two offerings: (NB I have not made any attempt to reproduce the transparency in the GIF images illustrating this page.)
PediBlueTree.ico in which the tree is blue rather than yellow.
PediBoldTree.ico in which the above blue tree has been boldened.
Mike Fisher has also had a go with Icon Studio and favours this version:
PediBlueBack.ico in which the tree is yellow but has a blue, rather than transparent, background.
Mike also suggests that where an icon is being set up to load a specific database, overlaying the icon with a single white letter can be very useful.
Dick Walker has sent me his icon collection (each GIF image here links to the equivalent .ico file):
Dick says: When making an icon I use a "seed" .ico with the centre lines there to work from which can be deleted later. When modifying an icon I rename it .bmp and open it in M$ Paint or similar. When finished & saved, I rename it ico.

Download this file (right click, Save Link As in Netscape, Save Target As in IE) - Linedraw.ZIP - and unzip the enclosed Linedraw.ttf file into your c:\windows\fonts directory if you don't already have the font on your w95/98 system.
Sorry, I don't know whether this will work on a w3.1 system!

Colin Liebenrood spoke generally about Utilities for Pedigree users and specifically about his new (beta testing at the time opf the AGM) Windows version of PedSpecs. Colin's presentation is available on-line or, if you wish to browse it off-line download this 275kb ZIP file unpack it (preferably into a directory of its own) and start browsing at 'present.html'. You can fetch a copy of PedSpecs for Windows from the (above) Utilities section of PUGweb.
